Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- Wade Waldrop is stepping into big shoes as the new head coach for Hoover Football. He says he doesn't feel any extra pressure, though. "Pressure is pressure," according to Waldrop. The coach won 41 games in seven years at Chelsea and 54 games in eight years at James Clemens. He'll face a new test this fall with a perennial powerhouse in Hoover's football program. (AL.com)
- Thousands were without power after massive storms tore across central Alabama. According to Alabama Power, about 26,000 customers in Birmingham lost power due to the storms. Trees fell on roads and property across the metro area. One tree fell on a car in Hoover and was shared in a photo by James Spann. Click the link to see photos and more reporting on the storms. - Family and friends are mourning the passing of Justin Reid. The 38-year-old passed on Sunday, Jul. 17. A visitation took place yesterday at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home and a memorial service followed. He was a 2002 graduate of the Altamont School and had a passion for carpentry. - Get inside to beat the heat with some great deals! Hoover Antique Gallery's July sale will last one more week. They're open from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Hoover Antique Gallery via Facebook)
- Hoover Fire Department put out a tractor-trailer fire on I-459 on Thursday. 1,750 gallons of water and 50 gallons of foam were used to extinguish the fire. (Hoover Fire Department via Facebook)
