- According to a Tuesday announcement, Amtrak passenger service will be returning to Mobile. Amtrak, the freight operators, and the Alabama State Port Authority struck an agreement allowing the passenger rail to service the Gulf Coast corridor. According to Knox Ross of the Southern Rail Commission, the service will include a connection from New Orleans to Mobile, with four stops likely in coastal Mississippi. On Dec. 9, the Southern Rail Commission will host a meeting in Mobile. (AL.com)
- On Monday, the Mobile Police Department honored victims lost to violent crimes, as well as the families left behind. The department honored those lost during the second annual lighting of “The Giving Tree,” an event meant to show these families that their loved ones have not been forgotten. Dozens of community members were in attendance to pay tribute during the event at the MPD headquarters. (Fox 10 News)
- Mobile Museum Of Art has been awarded re-accreditation from the American Alliance Of Museums. The accreditation is the highest national recognition afforded to the nation’s museums and signifies excellence to the museum community, governments, funders, outside agencies, and the museum-going public. Only 1,094 of the nation's roughly 33,000 museums are accredited; the Mobile Museum Of Art is one of seven accredited in the state. (Press Release Desk)
