Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:

  1. Montgomery police arrested 17-year-old Jakyeri McCovery in connection to the Apr. 3 homicide on Mulberry Street near Interstate 85. At around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, police found 22-year-old Amaree’ Jackson with a fatal gunshot wound; he was later pronounced dead by officials at the scene. McCovery, who was quickly identified as a suspect by police, is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Center. (AL.com)
  2. Montgomery Whitewater announced its grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, Jul. 8! There will be live music, food, and 90-minute rafting sessions available for purchase through park officials. The city and county hope the new attraction will bring more tourists to the city. (WSFA 12)
  3. Parents can register their kids for the City of Montgomery’s summer programming at a new event on Apr. 22. Along with summer registration, the Summer Registration Kickoff will feature free food, inflatables, face painting, arts and crafts, and more. The registration event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Oak Park, which is located at 1010 Forest Avenue in Montgomery. (WSFA 12)
