  1. Montgomery police have identified the city's 28th homicide victim in 2023 as 45-year-old Michael Jordan, who was fatally shot on Friday, Apr. 7. Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting and ask anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP, the secret witness line at 334-625-4000, or the MPD at 334-625-2831.   2. Alabama lawmakers in Montgomery are considering removing the state’s four percent sales tax on food due to rising grocery prices. On Apr. 11, Robyn Hyden, the executive director of Alabama Arise, said, "Our families are hurting. We can’t afford to pay four percent on top of already expensive food." Alabama is one of only three states that still tax groceries at the full state sales tax rate. (Cullman Times)
  3. Montgomery chicken finger fans are celebrating today because Guthrie’s, a restaurant known for its chicken fingers, has opened its newest restaurant in East Montgomery at 8871 EastChase Parkway. Joe Kelly Guthrie, CEO of Guthrie’s Franchising, Inc., said, "We are so excited to finally be back in Montgomery.
