Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:

  1. Montgomery police are searching for the suspect who shot and killed 43-year-old Darius Mitchell of Montgomery on Thursday night, Mar. 16. Police say Darius was shot around 8:00 p.m. in the 5900 block of Welbourne Place. Please call Central Alabama CrimeStoppers at (334) 215-STOP with any relevant information for officers.   2. Three Montgomery officers were praised for their efforts to save a woman who was trapped in a vehicle in a pond on Friday, Mar. 17. The officers entered the pond at the 3000 block of Narrow Lane Road "willingly assuming the potential risk” to their safety and rescued the woman. The officers then "performed aid" before she was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. (WSFA 12)
  3. Montgomery was named number two on the list of ten housing markets in the U.S. where homes are selling fastest, and the price per square foot has risen the most annually. According to an analysis by Realtor.com, Montgomery's median list price in February was $301,165, and the year-over-year increase in price per square foot was 26.5 percent. Although the home prices in Montgomery are still well below the national average, the prices are attracting many buyer, including from California. And the increase in price per square foot was the second highest on the list, only behind Davenport, Iowa. (USA Today)
