Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:

  1. Montgomery police are investigating the death of a young man that occurred on Mar. 30. Investigators discovered that the shooting took place in the 400 block of Buford Street, and the gunshot victim was then driven to a local hospital in a personal vehicle. The victim died a short time after arriving at the hospital. (AL.com)
  2. Montgomery Public Schools and two other Alabama school systems have filed a
a lawsuit against Meta (the owner of Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat for allegedly causing the youth mental health crisis.
The lawsuits were filed in the California state court Judicial Council Coordination Proceeding (JCCP). Beasley Allen attorney and JCCP co-lead counsel Joseph VanZandt released a statement that said, "The harm created by social media companies has strained already limited school resources as educators attempt to combat the widespread problems caused by social media addiction. These lawsuits make it clear to social media companies that they will face consequences for their conduct not only from the adolescents they harmed but also from the people and institutions supporting our youth." (Alabama News)
  3. Trenholm State Community College is hosting the third annual cruise-in today, Apr. 1, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at 3920 Troy Highway in Montgomery. The event will celebrate all makes and models of cars, trucks, and motorcycles alongside family-friendly entertainment and food. (WSFA)
