Here are the top three stories today in Montgomery:

  1. The City of Montgomery was chosen as one of 64 communities that will receive federal assistance in developing its public transportation system. The Thriving Communities program will assist city officials in planning out the system and building support for this to come to fruition, and being in this program also makes the city eligible for grant opportunities through the president's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will give Montgomery a better chance to receive funds from the $200 million in federal transportation funding. Montgomery was one of two cities in the state of Alabama chosen for the program, and the goal for the city is for better public transportation for the west and north Montgomery areas. 2. A Montgomery County jury found former State Rep. Will Dismukes is guilty after he was convicted of first-degree property theft for stealing more than $2,500 from his former employer from 2016-2018. The charges were first introduced in 2020 but were delayed multiple times during his term. Dismukes was also found guilty of two aggravating factors that may factor more into his sentencing, which will take place on May 4. He faces up to 20 years in prison as well as a fine of up to $30,000. (Alabama Daily News)
  3. The Montgomery Biscuits used early offense to squeak by the Tennessee Smokies on Thursday night for a 6-5 victory for the Minor League team. Montgomery scored all six of their runs within the first three innings of the contest and then survived the remainder of the game with tough pitching and fielding to hold on. The Tampa Bay Ray's number six prospect made his second start of the season as a pitcher where the lefty put on a strong performance to give his team an advantage early that they were able to capitalize on.
