Trussville Resident Selected As 2022 All-American NIRSA Official

TUSCALOOSA, AL β€” University of Alabama UREC Sport Programs student employee James Blount was recently invited to work at the NIRSA National Flag Football Tournament as a student official.

The National Tournament was hosted in Round Rock, Texas at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Blount qualified for this honor by being selected as an all-tournament official at the Southern Mississippi Regional Flag Football Tournament.

Skilled student officials from across the country gather for the NIRSA Flag Football National Tournament each year to not only officiate games, but receive intensive training and evaluations to expand their officiating knowledge.

Ten officials earned All-American Official honors at the event as selected by the officials clinicians. This award is given to the best of the best Flag Football officials in the country.

Blount, a resident of Trussville, was selected to join that short list of All Americans for 2022.

Blount has been an employee with UREC Sport Programs for most of his career at UA and he serves as the Program Assistant for the department. In his role as program assistant, he contributes greatly to officials development for Intramural Sports officials on campus.
