Alabama Fossil Fest Set For Sept. 20
The free event, set for Sept. 20 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., will feature hands-on activities, a new exhibit unveiling and more.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Crocodilians will be the focus of Alabama Fossil Fest later this month, hosted by the Alabama Museum of Natural History and the University of Alabama Museums’ department of museum research and collections.

The free event, set for Sept. 20 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Smith Hall, will feature hands-on activities, a new exhibit unveiling, talks from paleontologists and the presentation of the Alabama Avocational Paleontologist Award.

“This year, we’ve put together yet another very exciting and varied event,” Curator of PaleontologyAdiel Klompmaker said. “If you like biology, geology and/or paleontology, you do not want to miss this largest fossil event of the year in Alabama.”
Highlights will include a keynote talk on fossil crocodilians, a new exhibit featuring a large prehistoric predator and tables filled with fossils from across Alabama.

The Birmingham Paleontological Society, the Alabama Paleontological Society and other groups will participate, with one free fossil available per person at the university’s table.
