Alabama Hero Goes Above & Beyond Helping Others & Volunteering

Tuscaloosa, AL —When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

Hubert has always been involved in community help. The first time I learned of Hubert’s generous spirit was when he used his weekends and evenings to wire a community gym for Myrtlewood Elementary School in Fosters, AL. Since then I have had the opportunity to serve in various community events with him. The first one was when I asked him to help provide a meal and a church service to the homeless in Birmingham, AL. Hubert volunteered to pay for the food and helped cook it in addition to serving and speaking with each person who came through the line. Anytime I have a need for help with a project to help someone, Hubert is my go-to person. He has driven a van to provide rides for the homeless, brought his own front loader to move crates of food for the community, and stuck around to help serve the people, helped poor people with their homes, to helping serve different communities weekly in food distribution lines. Hubert volunteers at the local juvenile detention center to teach basic electrical work and construction.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

Hubert is a behind-the-scenes type person who never toots his own horn. He lives by the motto love your neighbor as yourself.
