ALDOT Announces Improvements For Busy Northport Intersection
State officials said this phase of the project will begin Monday, June 17, and last through July 31.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) on Wednesday announces plans to allow the contractor to install new traffic signal equipment and concrete islands at the northbound and southbound intersections of McFarland Boulevard and Alabama Highway 69 in Northport.

The project will add a travel lane in each direction, provide better access managementto businesses and a shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians.

ALDOT says the contractor will close the right through-traffic lanes in each direction on Highway 69, with the right turn lanes left open.
State officials said this phase of the project will begin Monday, June 17, and last through July 31.

This time frame was chosen due to the reduced traffic volume with summer vacation for local schools. ALDOT reports that the latest traffic counts showed more than 50,000 trips made per day on this stretch
Once complete, the 2.77-mile project is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along McFarland Boulevard from Highway 69 to Rice Mine Road.
The project is fully funded by proceeds from the state gas tax increase.
