ALDOT says the anti-litter event is part of ongoing efforts to promote cleaner and safer roadways, with all eight districts within the West Central Region asked to spend the day picking up litter on various routes.

The agency then said the full-time litter crew stationed in Tuscaloosa County gathered
approximately 50 tons of litter from March 2022 through March 2023, while ALDOT spent $7.34 million on litter cleanup throughout the state in fiscal year 2022.

“We urge citizens to consider the impact of their actions on the environment and to encourage
others to do the same,” West Central Region Engineer. Wallace McAdory III said. “Litter can
clog storm drains, pollute waterways and create unsafe driving conditions. The economic costs
of cleaning up litter are substantial and can impact tourism, property values and community
pride.”
