The Chamber of Commerce says the yearlong leadership initiative is designed to help students build leadership skills through character development, career exploration and community outreach.

Participants will take part in monthly, hands-on sessions examining Tuscaloosa’s economic, social, historical and political landscape, with local community leaders serve as mentors as students engage in service projects and character-building activities.

Organizers said students currently in 10th grade and entering 11th grade next academic year are eligible to apply, with applications accepted online at leaderstolegends.ua.edu from Jan. 15 through Feb. 26.

Interviews for the 2026–2027 cohort will take place March 23–April 16, with decision letters sent in May.

Sixty students will be selected by an interview committee that includes participants from Leadership Tuscaloosa. Those chosen will be required to submit registration documents and attend each session throughout the program year.

The Chamber of Commerce says the program consists of monthly sessions held from September through April, with topics including foundations of leadership, guided growth, serving with purpose, collaborative leadership, aspiration to achievement and legacy of leadership.
