Kennedy said a vehicle had crashed into a residence and one occupant was found to be dead from gunshot wounds, while a second occupant suffered injuries and is currently in critical condition at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

"The scene was extensive and both TPD and [the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office's] crime scene units worked together to process the scene," Kennedy said. "After investigation, a suspect and several persons of interest were identified and located. It was determined that the shooting and subsequent crash were the result of a robbery attempt."

Kennedy explained that the driver of the vehicle was shot, which caused the vehicle to crash into a residence.

He then said the identities of those involved would not be released due to both the victim and suspect being juveniles.

Kennedy said more charges are possible and the investigation is ongoing.

The fatal shooting is just the latest during a violent week for Tuscaloosa County, with the most recent killing representing the fifth shooting call investigated by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit in the last week.

This also is the second shooting death of a juvenile in Tuscaloosa this week, following a shooting Wednesday on Second Avenue that left a teenager dead.
