Arrest Made In Fatal Double Shooting At Tuscaloosa Apartments Thursday

An arrest has been made following a double shooting at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex early Thursday morning that left one man dead.

TUSCALOOSA, AL β€” An arrest has been made following a double shooting at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex early Thursday morning that left one man dead.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, provided additional details of the shooting to local media Thursday afternoon, saying officers responded on the initial shooting call around 1:30 a.m.

As Patch previously reported, the shooting occurred at Brookhaven Apartments at 1310 James I. Harrison Jr. Parkway. Once on scene, officers found two males had been shot.

Kennedy said one man had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second victim was hospitalized with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The deceased man was identified Thursday as Travaris Keandre Banks, 41.

He went on to say that Aaron Reshad Smith, 37, was located in Tuscaloosa County by the U.S. Marshals Service Thursday and taken into custody on an arrest warrant for murder and attempted murder.

The latest killing makes 14 homicides investigated by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit across the Tuscaloosa metro in 2024.
