As Patch previously reported, Brinyark won a special election in 2024 to fill the seat vacated by former State Rep. Kyle South, who left the legislature to become the president of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.
District 16 covers parts of Fayette, Tuscaloosa and Jefferson.

Brinyark also serves on the House Health and Judiciary committees.
Looking ahead to his re-election bid, Brinyark pointed to his support for legislation reducing the grocery sales tax, cutting taxes on baby supplies and doubling the state’s income tax exemption, which he said saves Alabamians more than $160 million a year.
“I am proud of the work we have accomplished, and I want to continue our fight for lower taxes, better-paying jobs, and safe and secure elections,” Brinyark said. “In my prior campaign, I promised to work for Alabama families and Alabama values, and I have kept that promise.”
During the previous legislative session earlier this year, he carried bills for both the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Secretary of State Wes Allen, including voter integrity legislation.
A 1990 graduate of the University of Alabama, Brinyark received his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1993.
Apart from a legal career spanning three decades, Brinyark has owned a small farm in Windham Springs since 1999, where he raises livestock for market and show, in addition to growing produce that is sold at the farmer’s market each week.
In terms of community service, he has held leadership positions on several boards of directors for nonprofit organizations like Indian Rivers Behavioral Health, Friends of the NRA and Tuscaloosa Shooting Sports.
A father of five, Brinyark is also an active member of Northport Church of Christ.
Qualifying for state legislative races closes Jan. 23, 2026.
The Republican primary is set for May 19, 2026.
