TCSO says Johns was employed with the sheriff’s office for 26 years and assigned to Brookwood High School as a school resource officer. A beloved member of the Brookwood community, Johns was recently honored as grand marshal of the high school's homecoming parade.

"Deputy Johns made a lasting impression on those around him," the sheriff's office said in an official statement released on Tuesday. "The Tuscaloosa County’s Sheriff’s Office lost a beloved co-worker and friend. We will remember him for his candidness, great sense of humor and dedication to the community. Our deepest condolences are extended to the family members of Deputy Tim Johns."

It's been an especially hard week for the Brookwood High community, which was already mourning the death of student Joseph Williamson.

"Both of these lives impacted our school community in a unique way, and we are all better for having known them both," Brookwood High School said in a statement on Tuesday. "Today and beyond, we will have a support team of counselors and social workers available to our students, faculty, and staff. Families, please encourage your students to reach out for support. They are loved and we are here for them."

Funeral arrangements for both Williamson and Johns have not been announced at this time.
