Child Seriously Injured During West Alabama Christmas Parade

A child was seriously injured Monday night during the annual Christmas parade when they fell from a float and were struck by a vehicle.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department says a 9-year-old boy was hospitalized with serious injuries after falling from a trailer and then being struck by the vehicle during the West Alabama Christmas Parade in downtown Tuscaloosa Monday night.

TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor told local media the child was with a group participating in the parade when the accident occurred at 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of University Boulevard and Greensboro Avenue.

She then said TPD officers, Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue and Northstar paramedics responded to the scene. The child was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The annual parade was temporarily suspended during the incident to allow emergency vehicles to pass through.
