Community Safety Discussion Forum Set For Sept. 8

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Local law enforcement leaders and community members will come together for a public safety discussion forum on Monday, Sept. 8, at the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy (TCTA).

The Community-Law Enforcement Safety Forum, scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., will feature panel discussions and demonstrations on a variety of topics, including traffic stop safety, police report procedures and guidance on reporting officer interactions.

Panelists include Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy, Tuscaloosa County Chief Alex Miles, Tuscaloosa County Lt. Marcus Bell, and Tuscaloosa City Deputy Chief Sebo Sanders.
Moderators for the event are WVUA 23 senior anchor Jabaree Prewitt and Townsquare Media’s Mary K. Schmitt.

Organizers said the forum will also address residents’ rights during traffic stops, officer body cameras, vehicle cameras, and the right to record.
A mock traffic stop demonstration is also planned.
The forum is presented by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Tuscaloosa Chapter in partnership with local law enforcement, media, and community organizations.
The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be provided.
