County Commission Approves $155M Budget, Employee Pay Raises
The Tuscaloosa County Commission on Wednesday approved a $155 million operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Commission on Wednesday approved a $155 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year, in addition to approving a 3% cost of living adjustment (COLA) raise for county employees.

The general fund — the largest part of the budget — was approved at an amount of $78,341,772, while $34,999,174 was allocated for the county's road and bridge fund.

Other notable line items include nearly $13 million for the county's health and dental insurance fund, $15 million for the American Rescue Plan Act fund and $1 million for the Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency fund.
The COLA raise represents the 39th consecutive year the county has given a pay raise to employees, with employee contributions to health insurance remaining the same as county leaders anticipate flatter revenue in the coming fiscal year.
