The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants, which are funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
“Energy costs can be overwhelming for low-income Alabama residents, especially during times of extreme heat or cold,” Ivey said. “Recipients of this assistance will be able to upgrade their homes in ways that will lower their bills both now and in the future.”

CSP says the Weatherization Assistance Program aims to improve home energy efficiency through various upgrades, including installing additional insulation, sealing air leaks, repairing or tuning up HVAC systems, and replacing incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient alternatives.
The nonprofit then said an energy audit is conducted on each qualifying home to determine the most cost-effective measures for reducing energy consumption and enhancing safety.
“We look forward to continuing to not only reduce the cost of energy use in the homes of vulnerable populations but also to increase the level of comfort and safety,” CSP Director of Housing Programs Antwon Prince-Sealy said.
CSP said local agencies receiving the funds will accept applications from residents in their regions seeking weatherization assistance.
