NORTHPORT, AL — Former Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon is inviting residents to take part in a weeklong civic competition for a good cause Aug. 11–15.

Dubbed the "Battle of the Districts," the canned food drive and voter engagement initiative will be organized by Herndon's nonprofit, Benevolent Way.

The event aims to collect food donations for local families in need while encouraging civic participation across the city’s five council districts.
Donations can be dropped off at 2728 Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard throughout the week, with each day designated for a specific district:

- Monday: District 1
- Tuesday: District 2
- Wednesday: District 3
- Thursday: District 4
- Friday: District 5 and mayoral candidates
The nonprofit is asking participants to bring canned goods such as green beans, peas and corn, in addition to optional monetary donations that will go toward providing Thanksgiving dinners for local families.
Each district will also have a comment box on-site for residents to leave questions, concerns and feedback for city leaders.
