Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told local media Wednesday afternoon that TPD responded at about 9 a.m. to the initial call of a shooting, where they located one person who had suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Kennedy said TPD officers also located a vehicle with several suspects inside.

"After processing multiple scenes for physical evidence, and interviewing numerous witnesses and suspects, it was determined that two suspects were the initial aggressors," Kennedy said. "These two suspects approached a residence and fired at an individual standing outside. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, but perceived arguments on social media may have been a factor."

Kennedy went on to say that the individual being shot at then returned fire and several houses were struck during the exchange.

As a result, one subject was shot and received a non-life-threatening injury.

"Responding officers and dispatchers did an excellent job of receiving and communicating information to other responding units, which resulted in the suspects being observed trying to flee the area in a vehicle," Kennedy said. "Both suspects were stopped and held for investigators."

Kennedy said one juvenile was charged as an adult with attempted murder, along with several counts of discharging into occupied dwellings and vehicles. He then said a second juvenile was charged with certain persons prohibited from possessing a pistol as a juvenile and committed to detention.

"Due to their ages, the Code of Alabama prohibits any identifying information to be released concerning either of these suspects," Kennedy explained.

Investigators have charged Johnny B. Hill Jr., 19, with attempted murder and several counts of discharging into occupied dwellings and vehicles.

Ja’Michael William Bradley,20, also saw his bond revoked on a prior first-degree assault charge.

"VCU is working closely with its federal partners to investigate any possible federal gun charges that may be applicable in this case," Kennedy said.
