As multiple eyewitnesses pointed out, Kayson fell from the front of the trailer he was riding on, in front of the wheels, before being run over by the trailer. Earlier this week, the Tuscaloosa Police Department said Kayson was transported to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham Monday night with injuries that are considered serious, but not life-threatening.

The family said Kayson has had two surgeries this week and is beginning the process of healing from his injuries.

Organized by Nat Thompson on behalf of Teralynn Thomas., the GoFundMe was started three days ago with an overall goal of $10,000 to cover the child's medical bills.

As of the publication of this story on Friday, the GoFundMe had raised $4,400 from 65 different donors.

"Your generosity means that his mother can be by his side while he heals," the GoFundMe says. "The fundraiser is almost halfway to its goal already. Over the next few days, it would be wonderful to reach or even exceed it. The best way to make that happen is to continue sharing it across social media."
