Greg Byrne To Headline Boys & Girls Clubs Campaign Kickoff Event Thursday

The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama (BGCWA) is set to kick off its local youth campaign with an event on Thursday at its Jaycee Park Club

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama (BGCWA) is set to kick off its local youth campaign with an event on Thursday at its Jaycee Park Club location.

The event will kick off at 10 a.m., with attendees hearing from key supporters, government representatives and club members about the need for and goals of the campaign.

This will include state-of-the-art updates and renovations to the Jaycee Park Club building, expanded program offerings for members, a branded fleet of transportation vans and Mobile Club site vehicles and financial security through the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama Foundation.

"This campaign is extremely important because it allows Clubs to provide quality programs, in
safe spaces, that build character and help members become leaders,” Campaign Co-Chair,
Club Alumna and Board Member Yolanda Stockdale said.

University of Alabama Athletic Director Greg Byrne, who is a major campaign donor and host of the annual Mal Moore Memorial Tournament, will speak at the event along with other local leaders and 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama Youth of the Year LaMorris Bester.

Bester has been a club member since 2020 and is actively involved in programs like Smart
Leaders, Passport to Manhood and STEM challenges, along with participating in volunteer opportunities.

A dual enrollment student at Shelton State Community College and Hale County High School, Bester has a 3.9 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of the HCHS Student Government Association and president of Alpha Esquire — a male mentoring and community service group.

The Jaycee Park Club will be open for tours following the program.

“We know the time has come for our community to rally on behalf of the children and teens who
are the future of Tuscaloosa and the surrounding area,” President and CEO Kim Turner said.
“This capital campaign is the next step in making it possible for our Clubs to provide all of the
tools and resources local kids need to imagine and create a Great Future.”

The Jaycee Park Club is located at 2201 Alberta Parkway.
