High-Speed Chase Through Tuscaloosa Ends In Crash Wednesday Night
A suspect is in custody following a high-speed pursuit Wednesday night that ended in a crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A suspect is in custody following a high-speed pursuit Wednesday night that ended in a crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed to Patch that the chase began when a TPD officer initiated a traffic stop at Monte Vista Drive and 36th Avenue East at 7:55 p.m.
TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor said the driver continued driving toward Diamond Circle, throwing items from the window, before continuing onto Skyland Boulevard.

She said the suspect driver then turned down Hargrove Road, with the pursuit reaching around 100 miles per hour near Loop Road.
Taylor went on to say that the chase continued down Hargrove Road, before making its way north to McFarland Boulevard, with the suspect driver exiting on Jack Warner and taking 21st Avenue south through downtown Tuscaloosa and onto 15th Street.
The suspect driver had continued toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard but crashed into a light pole near the Sonic restaurant at 8:16 p.m.
Taylor said Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue responded to check the suspect for injuries following the crash.
No TPD officers were injured, but more than one police vehicle sustained damage in the pursuit.
The suspect's charges have not been announced at this time and Taylor explained that TPD officers are currently searching the areas where the driver was observed throwing items from the car.
