Inmate Charged After Deadly Altercation In Tuscaloosa County Jail

TUSCALOOSA, AL — An inmate at the Tuscaloosa County Jail died early Friday after an altercation with another inmate.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the inmate, whose name was not immediately released, was found unresponsive around 1:20 a.m.

Kennedy said Patrick Means, 39, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident.
Jail medical staff began providing aid before EMS arrived and transported the unresponsive inmate to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Because the death occurred at the county jail, officers and supervisors not affiliated with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office are leading the investigation.
