Those contacted by Gerald Adams then called police and it was later found, according to Kennedy, that the victim had been suffering from numerous medical issues for an extended period of time.
Kennedy explained that family members reported that Gerald Adams may have felt overwhelmed by being his wife's caregiver.
Gerald Adams, who had his initial appearance in court on Monday, also declined to provide a statement to investigators following the shooting.
He is currently being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond, pursuant to Aniah’s Law.
