Investigators have identified an inmate at the Tuscaloosa County Jail who died from his injuries after an altercation last week.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit have identified an inmate at the Tuscaloosa County Jail who died from his injuries after an altercation last week.

As Patch previously reported, the inmate — identified Tuesday as 29-year-old Tarius Washington —was found unresponsive around 1:20 a.m.

Jail medical staff began providing aid to Washington before EMS arrived and transported the unresponsive inmate to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Kennedy said Patrick Means, 39, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident.

Because the death occurred at the county jail, officers and supervisors not affiliated with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office are leading the investigation.
