Jeff Bezos Organization Donates $1M To Tuscaloosa's Temporary Emergency Services

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Temporary Emergency Services (TES) on Monday announced that it has received a $1 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.

The Bezos Day 1 Families Fund — the brainchild of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos — issues annual leadership awards to organizations and civic groups that help families experiencing homelessness regain safe, stable housing and achieve well-being.

Since 2018, the Day 1 Families Fund has issued $639.1 million to organizations in 48 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

TES says this approach offers "no strings attached" grants to organizations, which allows recipients like TES to utilize the funds in the most effective ways to serve families in need within their communities.

Based in Tuscaloosa, Temporary Emergency Services provides immediate assistance to individuals and families in crisis situations.

"TES is honored to be among the select organizations recognized for their commitment to aiding families experiencing homelessness," TES Executive Director Karen Thompson-Jackson said. "This grant will significantly enhance our ability to support and expand our services in the Tuscaloosa community."
