John Hooks Stepping Down As University Of Alabama Police Chief
The University of Alabama Police Department has announced that Police Chief John Hooks will step down from his position.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — School officials have confirmed that University of Alabama Police Chief John Hooks will step down from his position at the end of the month.

"The University is grateful for Chief Hooks’ dedicated service through the past 10 years," UA said in a statement to Tuscaloosa Patch. "He helped build a strong team that will continue to ensure the safety and security of our entire campus community remains a top priority. We wish him the best."

Hooks has served as police chief since being appointed to the position in 2015 after former UAPD Chief Tim Summerlin was promoted to another role.
Hooks was also one of the recipients of the Tuscaloosa Exchange Club's Officer of the Year award for his efforts during the April 27, 2011 tornado.

Prior to his time with UAPD, Hooks served as a Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputy for five and a half years.
No word has been given as to the next steps for naming a replacement for Hooks.
