Joyce Alexander Named Next Dean Of UA College Of Education
Alexander previously served as a dean-in-residence with the American Educational Research Association in Washington, D.C.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama on Thursday announced that Joyce Alexander has been named the next dean of UA's College of Education, with her tenure set to begin Jan. 3, 2024.

Alexander previously served as a dean-in-residence with the American Educational Research Association in Washington, D.C. as part of an education research policy fellowship.

Prior to her time in D.C., she worked as dean of the Texas A&M University College of Education and Human Development.
“Dr. Alexander brings a wealth of knowledge in education leadership, policy and research to the Capstone,” UA Executive Vice President and Provost James Dalton said. “The future of the College of Education is bright with her leading as its new dean.”

UA says Alexander’s research interests include the development of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine, or STEMM, interests from preschool to college including family, school and community involvement in on-ramps, off-ramps and roadblocks to participation.
For example, she recently examined the role of leadership support in enhancing K-12 schools overall as part of a $14 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Wesleyan University, along with a master’s degree in education and doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Georgia.
