Kiwanis Club Of Tuscaloosa Donates $25,000 For Playground At Coker Foster Home

The Kiwanis Club of Tuscaloosa earlier this week donated $25,000 to Freedom Farm to help build the organization's first playground.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Kiwanis Club of Tuscaloosa earlier this week donated $25,000 to Freedom Farm to help build the organization’s first playground.

Donnie Grill of the Kiwanis Club presented the donation to Freedom Farm Executive Director Cathy Woods, with construction on the playground expected to be completed by Saturday, Dec. 6.

Woods described Freedom Farm as a foster home for children that focuses on creating a safe environment, guiding children on the right path and giving them hope.

Located on 80 acres in Coker, Freedom Farm says it is still in the foundational stages.

One all of the phases of construction are finished, the Freedom Farm campus will consist of approximately 17-18 residential homes — enough to house 100 children — an activity center, a general store, a chapel, a barn, a bridge home, playgrounds, a garden and tons of farm animals

Freedom Farm was featured at the club’s Pancake Day fundraisers in 2024 and 2025 as a way to increase awareness of the nonprofit’s mission.
