TUSCALOOSA, AL — A new pizzeria is gearing up to take the place of a longtime staple of the Northport culinary scene.

Signage is already on display for Chicago Pizza, which is in the process of setting up shop in the former location of California Underground Pizzeria at the Winn-Dixie shopping center on Highway 43 in Northport.

As Patch previously reported, California Underground closed for good last September after two changes of ownership.

The pizzeria was originally opened as Chicago Pizza more than two decades ago before becoming California Underground after a change in ownership in December 2003, shortly after the Winn-Dixie shopping center first opened.

According to business entity records filed with the Alabama Secretary of State's Office, Chicago Pizza Express, LLC, was formed on Sept. 6, with its registered agent being listed as Timothy J. Oliver.

No timetable is known for when the business will open.
