The city council president will also receive an annual salary of $17,500, while the mayor will be paid a salary of $22,000.

The last time the Council approved pay raises, as Patch previously reported, came in the spring of 2021 when a $7,000 raise was approved for all officials holding elected office. This was the first time the Council had approved raises on this scale since 2000.

At the time, council members were making $8,500 a year, while the mayor was paid $15,000 and $10,500 for the council president.

The resolution approved by the council Monday night addressed the decision by first mentioning the last time the city approved raises for elected officials in 2021.

The city says that during the following July, the Alabama Legislature adjusted the cycle of municipal elections and extended the current term of most municipal elected officials, including the City of Northport, until 2025, which prompted city officials to correct the effective date of the compensation adjustment to November 2025.
