Northridge Tops U.S. News & World Report's 'Best Public High Schools' In Tuscaloosa Metro

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Northridge High School has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the best public high school in the Tuscaloosa metropolitan area and No. 27th overall among Alabama schools.

With 1,158 students, Northridge reported a 37% participation rate in Advanced Placement courses and ranked 51st among Alabama public high schools on the College Readiness Index, with a score of 24.4.

Hillcrest High School ranked the second highest among public schools in the metro area and first in the Tuscaloosa County School System, while ranking 87th in Alabama.
In terms of the methodology, rankings were based on six factors: college readiness measured by AP and IB exam performance (30%); state test proficiency in math, science and reading (20%); state test performance compared with expectations for underserved students (20%); performance gaps between underserved and other students (10%); AP/IB curriculum breadth (10%); and graduation rates (10%).

Schools also receive a percentile score from 0 to 100.
