Northport Police To Strictly Enforce Traffic Laws On School Campuses

Northport Police are looking to crack down on traffic violations on school campuses in an effort to promote safety.

NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport Police Department (NPD) on Thursday announced it will begin strict enforcement of traffic laws concerning children in vehicles at all Northport school campuses, starting immediately.

NPD says the decision comes in the wake of multiple complaints about parents allowing their children to hang out of car windows and climb onto vehicle rooftops at Northport Elementary School.

NPD then said its officers intend to focus on enforcing laws related to child safety, including the use of proper child restraints and seat belts.

Violations will result in the following fines:

  • $187 for not using a child restraint
  • $41 for not wearing a seatbelt
  • $182 to $312 for violating the hands-free driving law
