NORTHPORT, AL — One person is dead and three people were injured in a Wednesday afternoon crash on Highway 43 near the intersection with Highway 171.

Northport Assistant Police Chief Keith Carpenter told local media that the four-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 12:39 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 43.

Carpenter said one fatality was confirmed at the scene and three others were treated for minor injuries.
He then said the cause of the fatal accident is being investigated by NPD's Traffic Reconstruction Unit.

No criminal charges are pending currently and Carpenter said traffic on Highway 43 will be detoured for the next several hours.
