Myron Dontrell Clancy was tried as an adult after Jonathan Desean Finney, 17, was shot and killed at the Short Stop Tobacco and Deli in Alberta on March 8, 2008. Investigators said the two teenagers knew each other and the shooting was the result of a longstanding dispute over a car.

Finney died at the scene and Clancy was taken into custody shortly thereafter when the gun used in the shooting was found at a family member's home.

While his case initially began in Tuscaloosa County juvenile court, and despite requests from his mother that he be involuntarily committed to a mental health facility, the murder case was transferred to Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court, where he was tried as an adult and given a 40-year prison sentence that began in April 2011.

During his parole hearing earlier this month, Clancy's daughter was the only one to speak in support of the state granting him an early release. Speaking in opposition to parole for Clancy were Finney's mother and brother, a representative speaking on behalf of Victims Of Crime And Leniancy and a representative from the Alabama Attorney General's Office.

Clancy is serving out his sentence at the St. Clair Correctional Facility, with his next parole hearing scheduled for May 1, 2029.

Inmate records with the Alabama Department of Corrections say that Clancy's earliest minimum release date as of the publication of this story will be Feb. 10, 2049.
