Police initially believed the driver had stopped to check on her when a Ford F150 struck the woman and continued driving east, but this was later determined to have not been the case.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, which was at McFarland Boulevard East, near Waffle House, Crunch Fitness and the area around Exit 73.
