Northport celebrated the opening of River Run Park on Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official debut of the park.

NORTHPORT, AL — The City of Northport celebrated the official opening of River Run Park on Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official debut of its new nine-field sports complex.

The $27 million facility, designed as a hub for youth athletics and community gatherings, features modern turf and amenities intended to host baseball, softball and other sports tournaments.

“River Run Park isn’t just a place to play — it’s where community, competition, and good times collide,” said Crimson Tide Sports Network broadcaster Chris Stewart, who emceed the event. “We’re thrilled to have a complex that is built to host big tournaments and designed with local fun in mind.”
Northport City Council President Christy Bobo also said the opening reflects years of planning and a commitment to community growth.

“The River Run Park Sports Complex will serve as the heart of youth athletics in our community,” Bobo said. “This investment in our children’s future reflects Northport’s commitment to building a stronger, more vibrant community for generations to come.”
The celebration included a drone and fireworks show, skills contests, live music and a Pepsi Ball Catch event.
Tuscaloosa County High School’s baseball team, the defending 7A state champions, and the school’s softball team, which finished second in the 7A state championship, were recognized during the ceremony.
