Eatmon explained that the purpose of the proposed project is to replace an existing deteriorated bridge, with improvements needed to address structural and functional deficiencies, including inadequate pedestrian accommodations along Stillman Boulevard from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Nick's Kids Avenue.
"The Stillman Boulevard Bridge is more than just infrastructure — it’s a critical connection for our community," Eatmon told Patch. "As we plan for the upgrades to it, it’s important that the voices of District 1 residents are heard. Their input will help ensure this project reflects both the needs and the future of West Tuscaloosa. I encourage everyone to come out and be part of the conversation."

The proposed project would involve removing the existing bridge structure that was built in 1938 on Stillman Boulevard over the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Railroad operated by WATCO Alabama Southern Railroad and replacing it with a new bridge designed to current structural and geometric standards.
Officials are also looking to improve pedestrian and bicycle access by adding a 10-foot-wide multi-use path on the north side of Stillman Boulevard and a five-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side of Stillman Boulevard from Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue to Nick's Kids Avenue.
