As Patch previously reported, Miles and his friend Michael Lynn Davis were both charged with capital murder following the shooting dead of 23-year-old Jamea Harris in the early morning hours near The Strip the morning of Jan. 15, 2023.

However, questions have been raised as to the possibility of who was acting in self-defense and the other circumstances leading to the shooting.

What's more, Patch reported earlier this month that two key witnesses in the case have died since the shooting, with 24-year-old Shu’bonte Tyler Greene killed in a motorcycle crash in Birmingham earlier this month.

During his previous testimony after being served a subpoena for the pre-trial immunity hearing for Miles, Greene also said one of the other two men in the car with him the morning of the shooting had since died of natural causes in the months since the shooting.

Much of the state's case is now likely to depend on Harris's boyfriend, Cedric Johnson, who has yet to testify in court and who is believed to have shot Davis twice during the deadly gunfight on Grace Street.

Jack Thompson is the lone witness in Greene's car the morning of the shooting who is still alive and, as Patch previously reported, Harris's family recently added Johnson as a defendant to its wrongful death lawsuit against Miles, Davis and former Alabama basketball standout Brandon Miller.

The only other witness in Harris's Jeep that morning was her cousin, UA student Asia Humphrey, who testified during the preliminary hearing for Miles and Davis in February 2023 and said under oath that she did not remember what was said during the altercation or who shot first.

Miles and Davis remain in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.
