Shelton State Baseball Punches Ticket To JUCO World Series

The Shelton State Community College baseball team has once again punched its ticket to Grand Junction, Colorado

TUSCALOOSA, AL β€” The Shelton State Community College baseball team has once again punched its ticket to Grand Junction, Colorado, after winning the NJCAA Division 1 South District championship on Monday.

Shelton State, led by longtime coach Bobby Sprowl, secured its latest appearance on the game's biggest stage with a 6-5 win over Delgado (La.) Community College on Monday at UAB, which comes after the Bucs defeated the Dolphins 3-2 on Sunday in Oxford.

The Bucs finished 4-0 in the South District Tournament, also logging wins over Nunez Community College and Southern Union Community College.

In the final game of the tournament, ACCC Co-Player of the Year Kyle Morrison β€” a sophomore infielder from Wetumpka β€” went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

On the mound, former Northridge High standout Bodie Vail started the game and tossed 6.2 innings in the win, logging six strikeouts, five walks and allowing five earned runs.

Bryant Akridge, a freshman pitcher from Brookwood, finished the game on the bump for the Bucs and got the win on the stat sheet.

The program's latest trip to the JUCO World Series comes after Sprowl won his sixth ACCC Coach of the Year honor and was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame as part of its 2024 class.

This season will see Shelton State (43-17, 28-8 ACCC) make its seventh trip to JUCO World Series, which is set to begin on May 25.
