SSCC Offering Hands-On Job Experience Through State's Rapid Training Program

SSCC is offering students the chance to enroll in hands-on training for in-demand jobs through the ACCS rapid training program.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Shelton State Community College (SSCC) is offering students the chance to enroll in hands-on training for in-demand jobs through the Alabama Community College System’s (ACCS) rapid training program.

Dubbed Skills for Success, the program is free for participants and was developed in collaboration with the ACCS Innovation Center to combine online learning with practical experience.

Skills for Success is also designed to address the specific needs of Alabama’s industries, including food and beverage, and trucking.

SSCC says students will complete most of their coursework online, with the courses culminating in a hands-on class. Upon completion, participants will receive an ACCS credential to signal to employers that they are job-ready.

“There are so many opportunities available to students,” Shelton State’s Workforce Development Project Manager Emily Wyatt said. “This short-term, free training may sound too good to be true, but we are proud this training is so accessible and leads to enhanced professional success for its attendees.”

Training is available in the following areas:

  • Carpentry helper
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Electrical helper
  • Fiber optics
  • Food and beverage
  • Heavy equipment (skid steer, bulldozer, excavator)
  • Land survey
  • Meat cutter
  • Mental health worker
