Stillman College Gets Big Turnout For Third Annual National Night Out

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Stillman College saw quite the turnout for its third annual National Night Out, which aimed to strengthen bonds between residents and local law enforcement.

Over 500 attendees showed up for the event, with the evening providing an opportunity for Stillman College students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage with representatives from over a dozen law enforcement and emergency agencies, including the Tuscaloosa Police Department and Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Entertainment for the event included performances from the Stillman College Blue Pride Marching Band, local high school bands, and various dance groups, along with more than 30 food trucks and vendors.
"We want to make sure that there is consensus between the community and the individuals who help protect us and keep us safe," Stillman President Yolanda Page said.

Page and Tuscaloosa Deputy Chief of Police Sebo Sanders also acknowledged historical challenges in building trust between the African-American community and police.
"It's a joyful moment when I can see the community and law enforcement come together to ensure our city and campus are safe," Sanders said.
