Stillman's Emily Powell Earns HBCUAC Volleyball Defender Of The Week

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Stillman College senior libero Emily Powell has been named the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Women's Volleyball Defender of the Week.

The honor makes Powell the first player from Stillman’s women’s volleyball program to receive this award since the team’s return in 2022.

Over a standout week, the Clanton native averaged 5.34 digs per set and recorded 19 digs per match over four contests.

Powell also recorded a stellar 31 digs in a match against Tuskegee University.

Powell also continued her strong defensive play with 15 digs in each of the following matches, including a 3-1 win over Miles College on Sept. 5 and in losses to Fisk University and Brescia University on Sept. 7.

A transfer from Wallace Community College, Powell currently leads Stillman with 99 digs through eight matches, averaging 4.13 digs per set and holding a serve receive percentage of .955.

Stillman College (1-7, 0-1 HBCUAC) will host Wilberforce University in a conference match on Friday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m.
