Submission Deadline Approaches For West Alabama Juried Art Show

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa has announced details for its annual West Alabama Juried Show, which will take place Jan. 20 – Feb. 20, 2026, at The Arts Council Gallery inside the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center in downtown Tuscaloosa.

A reception will be held during First Friday on Feb. 6, 2026, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with an awards ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Artists living in Bibb, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Perry, Shelby, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties are eligible to participate.

The public is invited to attend.

This year’s competition will feature several major prizes, including:

  • The $1,000 Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Purchase Award
  • The $500 Gail Skidmore Memorial Award of Excellence, sponsored by The Arts Council
  • A $100 cash award, also sponsored by The Arts Council

Following the exhibit, the winning Purchase Award piece will be displayed at the Chamber of Commerce office on 9th Street. Previous and upcoming Purchase Award selections will also be showcased throughout the building.

“Our organization is excited to continue this ongoing programming collaboration with The Chamber,” Arts Council Executive Director Sandra Wolfe said." “Their sponsorship of the Purchase Award reflects our region’s commitment to the arts and its impact on the community.”

Entries will be accepted Nov. 17–Dec. 5 with a $35 entry fee, which allows each artist to submit up to three original works in any medium, two- or three-dimensional.

The nonprofit says submitted pieces must not have appeared in a previous West Alabama Juried Show.

Organizers also said all entries must be original, not created in a class or workshop, and must adhere to size and weight limits of 5.5 feet by 5.5 feet and 50 pounds.

What's more, two-dimensional works must be ready for hanging, properly matted, framed, and under glass if appropriate.

Applications, payment procedures, and full submission details are available on the Arts Council website.

Completed applications and digital images should be emailed to competitions@tuscarts.org between Nov. 17 and Dec. 5.
