Sumter County Man Killed Saturday Night In Crash Near Cuba

A Sumter County man is dead following a single-vehicle crash Saturday night on Wire Road 1 near Cuba.

TUSCALOOSA, AL β€” A Sumter County man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night on Wire Road 1 near Cuba.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said the fatal crash occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. Saturday when the 2000 Pontiac Bonneville driven by 48-year-old Orlando Artis, of Cuba, struck a fallen tree that was in the roadway.

Troopers said after the initial collision, the vehicle left the roadway, struck a second tree and overturned.

ALEA reported that Artis was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced dead at the scene near Beaver Drive.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
