Suspect Charged After NYE Shooting Outside Of Academy Sports

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot several times outside of Academy Sports + Outdoors on Skyland Boulevard.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot several times outside of Academy Sports + Outdoors on Skyland Boulevard New Year's Eve.

As Patch previously reported, the initial call of the shooting came in at 6:57 p.m., with a 42-year-old man being injured by gunfire in the parking lot of the store before leaving the scene.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the man drove himself to the hospital after being shot, where he was later contacted by police.

Kennedy said the man's injuries were not life-threatening and a suspect was soon developed, but was not immediately located by law enforcement.

He went on to say that based on the victim’s statement, along with video and other physical evidence at the scene, an arrest warrant was obtained for Kajairames Conner, 23.

Conner was located Tuesday and charged with attempted murder.

He remains in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.
